Why a mix: large fish in the wild don't live on one prey item. They take insects, larvae and small aquatic organisms as they come, and that variety is what delivers balanced nutrition. A single-insect feed leaves gaps a mix doesn't.
The blend includes mealworms, superworms, crickets, beetles, pupae, black soldier fly larvae, roaches and shrimps — each bringing different proteins, fats, amino acids and micronutrients.
The shrimp content is included specifically for fish: it's a protein source they recognise, and it supports colour development alongside the insects.
Dried rather than live, so there's no risk of introducing parasites or contaminants to your tank, and no live-feeder maintenance.
Suitable for: arowana, flowerhorn, oscars, discus, large cichlids, pacu, datnoid and other monster or predatory aquarium fish. Also suitable for large pond fish.
Not for small community fish. Tetras, guppies and bettas need our Dried Tiny Mealworms instead — this blend contains insects too large for them.
A supplementary treat, not a staple. We recommend using it alongside a quality pellet diet rather than in place of one.
Pack sizes: 15g (150+ insects), 30g, 60g, 150g.
Soak before feeding. 3–5 minutes in warm water so the insects sink rather than float. This also makes them easier to digest.
Offer 3–6 pieces at a time depending on the size of your fish, two or three times a week.
Feed alongside your regular pellet diet, not instead of it.
Watch the feed go in. Remove anything uneaten within a few minutes — this is what keeps the water clean.
For arowana, hand- or tong-feeding from the surface works well and makes a good enrichment routine.
Start with a small amount when introducing it. Most fish take it immediately; some need two or three attempts.
Use a dry spoon each time
Will this foul my tank? Not if you feed it properly. Soak the insects for a few minutes so they sink instead of floating, feed only what your fish finishes in a few minutes, and remove anything left over. Fouling comes from overfeeding, not from the product.
How is this different from buying dried mealworms? Variety. Mealworms give you one protein profile; this gives you eight or nine insect and shrimp sources in one pack, which covers more of what a predatory fish needs. Many keepers buy both and rotate.
Can this replace my pellets? No, and we don't recommend it. Pellets are formulated as a complete diet. This is a high-protein supplement that adds variety and triggers a natural feeding response — use the two together.
My arowana is off its food. Will this help? Often, yes. A varied insect mix is one of the more reliable ways to restart interest in a fish that's gone off pellets. Soak it, offer at the usual feeding time, and give it a few days.
Is it safe — can dried insects carry parasites? Dried insects are considerably safer than live or frozen feeders in this respect. Ours are farmed in controlled conditions and gently dried, with no additives or preservatives.
Can I feed this to my goldfish or community tank? This blend is sized for large and predatory fish. For goldfish, tetras, guppies and bettas, our Dried Tiny Mealworms are the right size.
Does it help with colour? The shrimp and varied insect content support colour development alongside overall condition. Colour depends on genetics, water quality and the whole diet, not any single feed — but a varied protein source helps.
How much should I feed? 3–6 pieces per feed for a large fish, two or three times a week, adjusted to size. Enough that it's finished within a few minutes.
